National Historical Archive of Belarus in Grodno

The National Historical Archive of Belarus in Grodno (Национальный исторический архив Беларуси в г. Гродно) traces its origins to the establishment of the Grodno Governorate and its archive in 1801–1802. The archive originally collected finalized case files from governorate institutions and historic act books from local courts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the 16th to 18th centuries. Significant parts of the archive were relocated to Vilnius following a decree by Emperor Nicholas I in 1852, while the archive suffered losses during wars and occupations, notably in 1812, 1915, and World War I, when parts were evacuated or destroyed.

Today, the archive serves as a scientific and research center responsible for the receipt, processing, storage, and accessibility of documents from the National Archival Fund of Belarus, supporting studies in archival science, source studies, and related disciplines.
